Go Virtual with a CT Colonography – the simple, fast, easy way to get screened for colon cancer
What is CT Colonography (CTC)?
CTC stands for Computed Tomography (CT) Colonography. It is also known as “Virtual Colonoscopy”.
CTC is used to screen for colorectal cancer.
This patient-friendly test uses special x-ray equipment and computers (“computed tomography”) to produce images of the entire colon (“colonography”).
The images are displayed on a computer screen for the radiologist to evaluate.
A CT Colonography (CTC) fits into your busy schedule
It's minimally-invasive, accurate and fast:
CT Colonography is high-tech scan that only takes about 15 minutes and then you’re on your way!
A virtual colonoscopy does not require sedation. You will be able to drive yourself home or return to work immediately following your exam.
CTC is covered by most insurance plans
(but not by Medicare).
Why you should get comfortable with regular colon cancer screening
Colon cancer is caused by abnormal cells that form tumors in the large bowel, also known as the colon. There are usually no symptoms at first to indicate a problem. However, colon cancer is preventable and treatable with regular screenings.
The latest guidelines from the American Cancer Society recommend screening for colon cancer starting at age 451. Most medical insurance plans cover colon cancer screenings.

- CTC is recognized by the American Cancer Society, the US Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer and the US Preventative Services Task Force for colon cancer screening
- CTC is covered by most insurance plans and is less costly than a colonoscopy
- CTC provides more information than a colonoscopy — it can detect abnormalities outside the colon
- CTC minimizes the risk of perforating the colon
